Summary/Abstract |
Sebastian asks what fathers do besides protect their families. The senior turtle answers by describing what different meadowland dads do for their children and asking which animal he is talking about. "Well, a father encourages his children. He chirps to them when they try to fly for the first time. Can you guess which father that is?" Of course, at the end, the little turtle decides that his dad is the best of all, as the two burrow in a pile of autumn leaves to keep warm during the coming winter. Kadmon's illustrations for this gentle story fill the oversized pages with soft, glowing greens, blues, and oranges, and beautifully depict various creatures and their young. This lovely book is perfect for sharing one-on-one and for storytime, where it has good potential as a participatory tale.
