History of Britain
|
Summary/Abstract |
On 7 September 1533, Anne Boleyn, the new wife of Henry VIII, gave birth to a baby girl. Henry was bitterly disappointed, for he believed that girls were not suitable to be rulers. The baby girl grew up to be Elizabeth I, the strongest and the cleverest of all the queens of England. During Elizabeth's reign, the country became peaceful and united after years of unrest, the Spanish Armada was defeated, trade and industry grew and the court became a centre for playwrights, artists and musicians.
