One of the most dramatic romantic comedies of Shakespeare, it recounts the story of Antonio, a rich merchant of Venice who borrows money to help his friend Bassanio pursue his suit of Portia. Unfortunately, he is unable to return the money in time and the moneylender, Shylock the Jew, devises a retribution calculated to take Antonio's life. There is a dramatic turn in the events however, when a young and brilliant lawyer beats Shylock at his own game. The burning question is , who is the lawyer?
