Summary/Abstract |
In the beginning, there was nothing but endless flatness. Then came the Carpet. That's the old story that everyone knows and loves. But now the Carpet is home to many different tribes, and there's a new story in the making. The story of Fray, sweeping a trail of destruction across the Carpet. The story of power-hungry mouls, and of two Munrung brothers, who set out on an adventure to end all adventures when their village is flattened. It's a story that will come to a terrible end, if everyone doesn't do something about it.

Discworld
|
Summary/Abstract |
The Last Hero is a short novel, the twenty-seventh of the Discworld series by Terry Pratchett. a group of aged barbarians led by Cohen the Barbarian, set out on a quest. The heroes are disillusioned with the way their lives have turned out, and angry for having been allowed to grow old. This book displays Pratchett in madcap inventiveness and humour mode, much more like the earlier books than the more disciplined and mature novels of late, which are arguably better Literature, but not as much fun. That's not to say that this book doesn't have any depth to it, not at all. The book moves seamlessly from jokes about the fantasy genres to the big matters of life and death and gods and humanity, often on the same page. It doesn't descend into polemic or become allegory, but there's plenty going on in the story to go away and think about, as well as just plain fun and wordplay. So humour, wit, intelligence, beauty and excitement - what more can you want?

Discworld - Tiffany Aching
|
Summary/Abstract |
Tiffany Aching put one foot wrong, made one little mistake...And now the spirit of winter is in love with her. He gives her roses and icebergs, says it with avalanches and showers her with snowflakes - which is tough when you're 13, but also just a little bit...cool. And just because the Wintersmith wants to marry you is no excuse for neglecting your chores. So Tiffany must look after Miss Treason, who's 113 and has far too many eyes, learn the secret of Boffo, catch Horace the cheese, stop the gods from seeing her in the bath -'Crivens!' Oh, yes, and be helped by the Nac Mac Feegles - whether she wants it or not. But if Tiffany doesn't work it all out, there will never be another springtime...
